Biodegradable Rice Straws In Malaysia – Eco Friendly & Edible!

Straw is a product of agriculture made up of the dry shoots of crops after the grain and chaff have been removed. It accounts for almost half of cereal crop yields such as barley, oats, rice, rye, and wheat.

What Is Rice Straw?

Rice straw is a rice byproduct that is formed during paddy harvesting. Depending on the variety, snipping off the stalks, and moisture level during harvest, each kilogram of milled rice harvested yields around 0.7–1.4 kg of rice straw. Rice straw is removed from the grains after the plants have been threshed manually, with stationary threshers, or, more recently, using combine harvesters. As lignocellulosic biomass, rice straw is composed of three main components: lignin, cellulose, and hemicelluloses.
